"I am a tourism entrepreneur-apolitical-which came to the Comacchio area 54 years ago, in '67, when tourism here was in its infancy, from Trentino Alto Adige, an area that instead boasted established tourism traditions, with the aim of inventing something productive in an area with great natural value-the Po Delta-which was then a declared depressed area frequented only by a few Italian tourists, just for mid-August.
I knew how interested the area could be in the northern European tourist pool, I knew how in vogue were outdoor vacations-camping. There were the first campers there, when camping was not yet widespread in Italy. In order to bring this type of tourism, which was still unknown here, closer to the territory, I went to Amsterdam in the fall: I needed to find a possible formula to entice these vacationers to stay in an area that was definitely unknown then. There were no cell phones, no Internet, only paper information was conveyed. Campers could only be reached at trade fairs, so I would leave with my quintals of paper brochures, set up decent booths, organize trips to Germany, Holland, Switzerland, Belgium. From 3 to 5 trade fairs per winter, in distant cities, almost always abroad, for a good 35 years: this was the way to promote tourism in our area until the incredible invention of the Internet, which finally made it possible to abandon paper.
I went from a decades-long competitive, arid-became-arid activity for me-in the north to an active, constructive, attractive, extremely consumer-oriented form of employment; I always thought of the customer first, keeping immediate profit in the background but always with the great satisfaction of the well-deserved end result. 'First give, then ask,' as an old proverb taught me. I am happy to say that here I have always been respected, trusted and above all emulated by other businesses in the area and in the industry.
I have experienced many good moments related to my work: it was exceptional to be able to bring the Tahiti Complex to be among the best in Europe, or to discover the presence of salsobromoiodic thermal water in the subsoil, which with its properties allowed the birth of the first spa in the Ferrara area. It is also incredible to have been elected president of the Lion Club Comacchio Sette Lidi, and to have been awarded the Melvin Jones - international recognition of Lions - and even received the title of Knight of the Republic from the President of the Republic and the Council. The real positive contribution of my work - and the great, great satisfaction - was then noticed on the economic balance of the companies in the area, with an important value on the external induced.
Although I was born and raised in Trentino, I have integrated and loved this territory that after so many sacrifices has brought me so much luck".
