We are four museum workers, all residents of the Municipality of Comacchio, and for this reason, too, it is a great satisfaction for us to work here. We work for the town's archaeological museum, one of the beating hearts of the memory of our territory: this means, even in our own small way, to be on the front line to help care for and preserve the identity of our Comacchio!
Our task here is to coordinate and devote ourselves to all the activities that make up daily life at the Museo Delta Antico. We operate in the area of so-called additional services. which are services aimed at making the visiting experience more pleasant, for example, ticketing, bookshop, checkroom. Our most complex and equally fundamental task is the management of museum education, which consists of developing workshops for schools or families and organizing guided tours designed to communicate museum heritage to all kinds of audiences.
We came to this role because of our university studies in the field of Cultural Heritage. Our passion for the beauty of our heritage unites us all and has led us, through different paths, to share one goal: to hone as much as possible our ability to communicate the history of our area so as to convey and ignite this same curiosity of ours in fellow citizens and visitors.
Some of us had already begun our experience when there was still the small Roman Ship Museum. With the opening of the Delta Antico Museum in 2017, the Comacchio archaeological museum scene has expanded enormously. The growth of the new museum has never stopped: the prestigious collection is enriched year by year, temporary exhibitions are alternated, and new sections of the itinerary are opened, such as the Open Air section at Stazione Foce, which houses a reconstruction of the Etruscan settlement of Spina. One step at a time, the museum also seeks to make itself increasingly accessible. The tactile bench, for example, allows for the involvement of blind visitors and grants all the curious to literally touch history with their hands; or the introduction of subtitles to the multimedia path, which caters to the deaf, but also the expansion of the olfactory path. In short, we can say we are proud to work in a museum that knows how to make itself known through all the senses so as not to exclude anyone. Over the years we have seen our audience grow, both Italian and foreign, both in numbers and in its diversity, thanks precisely to these inclusive interventions.
Since its opening, the Delta Ancient Museum has been able to earn compliments and appreciation from visitors. They often repeat to us how much of an unexpected surprise our museum is. What a great satisfaction when visitors voluntarily look for the signature book to leave a comment about their passage and the beautiful experience! The greatest reward, however, is when visitors greet us on the way out and say they will come back or recommend the museum to their friends: we work precisely so that the museum tour or visit we lead leaves a pleasant memory and a desire to share it! Every person who becomes passionate about history because of our museum-and because of us! - is a person who learns to understand, appreciate and protect our cultural heritage, and that is where the mission of our work is fulfilled.
