The beach is wide, well-kept and organized, with well-equipped bathing establishments offering entertainment, sports activities and services dedicated to children. The center of the Lido is lively and welcoming, enlivened by evening markets, folk festivals and festivals that mark the rhythm of the summer, creating a convivial atmosphere that is never chaotic.
Lido has its roots in a historical episode from the 16th century and the subsequent birth of Borgo Scacchi. The story goes that at the end of the year 1509, the Serenissima wanted to punish the expansionist manias of the Este family with a river attack on the Duchy of Ferrara. At Polesella, on the banks of the Po, a bloody confrontation took place, which saw a crushing victory for the Ferrara militia. An artilleryman from Polesella with the surname Arveda, loyal to Duke Alfonso I d'Este, was knighted "degli Scacchi" and given a piece of woodland, the ancient Bosco Eliceo, between Borgo della fontana (today's San Giuseppe di Comacchio) and Magnavacca (Porto Garibaldi). Here arose the first settlement, Borgo Scacchi, and all around it developed a vast area planted with vineyards, from which Bosco Eliceo Wines are produced.
Not to be missed
Lido degli Scacchi is also an excellent starting point for excursions to the Po Delta Park and to visit Comacchio, Ravenna, Pomposa Abbey and Mesola Castle. On August 8, the lido's birthday party with parades and entertainment.
