The Manifattura dei Marinati is one of the most authentic places in Comacchio, a working testament to history and tradition that has never stopped breathing. Set along the evocative Loggiato dei Cappuccini, it stands as a defining symbol of the deep bond between the town and its lagoon.

Here is where the ancient craft of fish marinating is kept alive and passed down from one generation to the next. At its heart is the lagoon eel, the culinary emblem of this territory and a recognised Slow Food Presidium. During the autumn season, visitors can still witness the entire production cycle first-hand: cutting, skewering and cooking, following methods handed down through generations.

The visit winds through historic rooms steeped in atmosphere: the Sala dei Fuochi, with its twelve great fireplaces; the Calata, once the landing point where the day's catch was unloaded; and the Sala degli Aceti, where the pickling brine used to preserve the fish was prepared.

The Manifattura dei Marinati is far more than a museum. It is a place of living experience, where age-old gestures can be observed close up and local food products rooted in tradition can be purchased directly on site.

An unmissable stop for anyone who wants to truly understand the identity of Comacchio through its flavours, its history and the enduring story of human life in harmony with the water.
