Pear from Emilia Romagna - IGP
The area facing the Po River holds a predominant position in pear production both in quantity and quality. Today it is a particularly appreciated fruit because of its delicate and sweet taste, but with a low caloric content and is an excellent source of natural fibre and vitamin C. Although frequently eaten simply fresh, pears from Emilia-Romagna are also often used as ingredients in sweets, fruit salads and even savoury dishes; it is typical of the farming customs to eat pears with mostly aged cheeses.
The granted varieties are: Abate Fetel, Cascade, Conference, Decana del Comizio, Kaiser, Max Red Burtlett, Passa Crassana and Williams.
It received the IGP recognition in 1998.
